The controls of Appel are fairly straightforward. You can either use WASD or the arrow keys to navigate around the map and jump from platform to platform. Avoid the spikes

Do everything you can to avoid these obstacles in order to progress through each level and complete the game.

Hop onto enemies

While learning how to play Appel, you might notice that there are some little red guys who shuffle back and forth through the map. While they may look cute, they will send you back to your last checkpoint if you bump into them. To avoid this, jump onto the top of their head to erase them from the map. This is a helpful way to make Appel a much easier game.

Capture checkpoints

As you continue to progress through the Appel map, you will notice that there are flags planted in the ground on occasion. Once you cross these flags, you will set a new checkpoint for yourself. This means that even if you run into spikes or get crushed by an enemy, you will just get teleported back to the checkpoint flag. Make sure to cross by a checkpoint whenever possible; they will save you a lot of time.

Get the red apple

While there are tons of golden apples lying around the map, there is one apple that won’t be so obvious – the red apple. There is only one giant red apple hidden on each level. It will be much harder to find than any of the other apples, so make sure that you look for hidden passages and areas that are difficult to access. If you really want to complete all of Appel, you will have to find the giant red apple that is hidden on each level.
