There are a ton of different card games that you can play here at Coolmath Games. From Crazy Eights, to Gin Rummy, to Solitaire, there is no shortage of variety. Of all of these card games though, only one takes the crown for easiest to learn and play – War.

How to Play War

War is probably the simplest possible card game that you can find. It involves two players going head to head drawing cards and placing them down immediately. So whether you’re a total newbie to card games, or a serious savant, everyone will be on equal footing in the War card game.

Picking the version

There are two different options that you will have at the beginning of the game – do you want to play a bot or do you want to play another person on the same device? Either way the game will have the same mechanics, it’s just a matter of deciding who to play.

Playing

Playing War is easy. All you have to do is click on the screen to unveil the top card from your deck. If your card is higher than your opponent’s card, then you take both of the cards. On the other hand, if they play a higher card, then they take the stack.

The only variation is if a tie occurts. For example, if both of you play a 4, then you will place three cards each face down in the middle. Then, flip over the fourth card. Whoever has the higher card takes the entire pile, upside down cards and everything.

Dealing

The cards are distributed evenly amongst the two players in War, both being given 26 cards each. Once all of your cards have been used, you will reshuffle and start again until you hit the bottom of your pile.

Keeping Score

Figuring out who is winning in easy. Whoever has the most cards is likely the one in the lead, although it’s not always as exact as that. To beat your opponent, you must take every single card they have until there aren’t any left in their pile. This can be a more difficult feat than you would think, taking their Kings and Aces can be especially difficult.

Rematch

At the end of the match, you have a decision to make. Do you want to go for a rematch or do you want to end it there? War games tend to take around 10 minutes, so make sure that you have time to play again before hitting rematch.

Now that you know how to play War, get out there and give it a try! You might be surprised by how much fun such a simple concept can be.
