Your goal in Snakes and Ladders is to climb to the top of the mountain and land in the winner's circle!
The first thing you need to do is choose your game settings. Tap the icons to set the number of players, and to choose if they will be human or computer-controlled. When you're ready, tap Start Game.
Once the game starts, tap the die to roll. After you roll, you'll automatically move forward that number of spaces. If you land directly in front of a ladder, you'll climb up. But if you land right in front of a snake's head, you'll slide back down. When you get to the top of the mountain, you'll see the winner's circle. To enter, you have to roll the EXACT number of spaces that you are away from it (without going over).
Fun fact: this game is also known as Chutes and Ladders!

Are there any other names for Snakes and Ladders?
Yes! While the original name is Snakes and Ladders, it was eventually renamed Chutes and Ladders when it came to America from England. When the board game company Milton Bradley released the game, they thought that Snakes would deter children from playing it due to their fear of snakes.
When was Snakes and Ladders invented?
The origins of Snakes and Ladders go back very far, debatably going all the way back to the 10th century. Historians believe that this game was created in India. At this point, it was not called Snakes and Ladders though. Instead, it was referred to as Moksha Patam.
In the 1890s it was brought over to the United Kingdom and was translated into Snakes and Ladders, the game that we know today. The board was kept roughly the same, and children in the UK immediately started playing it. Snakes and Ladders is a great entry-level game for children who might prefer games that are more luck-based.
